Yi Ting Ong Associate Director
Professional Services & Advisory

Working at Precursor for over 9 years now, Yi Ting has always followed her personal philosophy;
"Everything comes with a price". Through her philosophy and hard work, she managed to climb up the corporate ladder from an Associate to now a trusted Associate Director of the firm.

It has been a few months since she became an Associate director, so we asked her a few questions and see how she was doing now with her new role.

"My number one focus right now is to uplift the staff's overall technical knowledge and provide customized training to each of them. Times are tough right now, especially on ensuring that the staff are up to date on what's happening. These things are my priority since these aren't just for me but also for the company."

What was/were your greatest work achievement/s at Precursor? How did it make you feel after achieving it?

That would be me becoming a public accountant for Precursor. It is how I managed to building up strong relationships with my clients and colleagues that I felt most encouraged and driven. That feeling of accomplishment for the past 9 years of late nights, perseverance and hard work is a feeling that's indescribable.

What would you say motivates you to do well at work?

Cliche as it may sound, but my biggest motivation right now is my clients. Communicating with different clients of different industries and fully understanding their needs pushes me to do well.

What do you think are your strongest traits?

Communication skills combined with the street-smarts shape my excellent rapport with people of all ages and an exceptionally great dealer when facing a demanding client daily.

Creativity and innovation enable me to think out of the box and develop unique ideas and turn them into reality.

Emotional intelligence prevents negative emotions and spreads positive thinking to the team members.

What is your usual source of inspiration when you tackle a difficult problem ahead?

Generally, my work is not easy and can often lead to a lot of stress or problems on a daily basis. That's why I make sure to have some desserts whenever I'm having a difficult day. I always believe that desserts help me relieve my stress.

What are you passionate about when you are not working? (If your passion is your work, what makes the work fulfilling for you?)

Travelling to different countries is one of the things that I really enjoy. It is where I spend most of my free time, aside from spending it with my family.

What skills/lessons are you looking forward to get as you are working as an Associate Director?

One would be to enhance my technical knowledge in the accounting and auditing standards. The second is digital proficiency. Many industries are shifting into the digital space. So, I want to guide my staff on training that can be accessed digitally.

What do you envision yourself doing in the next 5 years? (Work or Personal life)

In the next 5 years, I envision myself as an Audit Director; still working on a role and industry that I love is what I want to continue doing in the future.

What are the lessons you could impart/share to the fresh graduates? Something that you could have told to your younger self if you've just had the chance?

Do you what you love, and you'll never work another day in your life.
